Volunteer With Age Concern Gosport

  • Would you like to meet people and make new friends?
  • Do you enjoy helping other people in the community?
  • Do you want to get out more?
  • Do you have skills and experience you’d like to put to good use?

If the answer’s YES, then you sound like the ideal volunteer to help deliver or support Age Concern Gosport’s services to the older people in our community!

Last year, our hard-working volunteers gave up a total of over 900 hours to benefit older people in Gosport. The form-filling service alone helped more than 100 people claim benefits amounting to over £300,000! In addition, 600 Gosport residents benefited from sign-posting services and the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust pilot project ‘Your Care in Your Hands – Hospital or Home?’.

This work was recognised and honoured when four of the charity’s team recently received GVA Volunteer Awards.

Volunteering opportunities in Gosport

There is no shortage of volunteering opportunities with Age Concern Gosport if you have some time on your hands. As a volunteer, you can give as much or as little time as you choose.

How can you help?

  • Form-filling assistance
Many older people are daunted by the red tape and form-filling that’s involved with claiming benefits. Helping someone complete the paperwork and successfully claim benefits they are entitled to can make a huge difference to their quality of life.
  • Sign-posting advice
Many older people need help with their health care or domestic problems. Perhaps they need help with repairs to their home. Age Concern Gosport’s sign-posting service gives free information on the help and support that’s available and how it can be accessed.
  • Fundraising
Fundraising for a good cause is fun and sociable! Without money, Age Concern Gosport can’t deliver its essential services in the community and would be faced with closure. Apart from a small grant from Gosport Borough Council, the charity depends on donations and fundraising to maintain its services.
  • Marketing and social media
If you have marketing and/or social media skills, you could help more local people in need by spreading the word about Age Concern Gosport’s free services.
  • Speaking and presenting Do you enjoy presenting or public speaking? If so, supporting our outreach projects is a rewarding experience. You’ll not only get out and about in the community and meet new people, you’ll also help generate awareness about Age Concern Gosport.
  • Trustees
A small team of trustees are responsible for the governance and sustainability of our independent local charity. Our trustees attend four meetings a year, as well as some ad hoc outreach events. If you would like to be involved and support Age Concern Gosport’s work, could this be the role for you?
